As a former
public school teacher, I became increasingly disenchanted with the quality
of education offered in the public school system. So, I decided to educate
my children at home. I felt I could provide them with a superior educational
experience, emphasizing core curriculum, as well as moral and character
development.
When I started
down this path, I found that even with my background as a teacher, the
amount of information, available resources, and the number of decisions
I needed to make were overwhelming. I had made several “false starts,”
randomly choosing resources that I eventually became unhappy with for various
reasons. This was not only frustrating, but also expensive! Looking back,
I realize that beginning a homeschool lifestyle was much more difficult
than it needed to be.
Since that time,
I have spoken with and mentored many parents who were beginning to homeschool.
I’ve learned that by sharing my experience and knowledge, I can smooth
the path for others starting the homeschool journey.
